2/# @KimberlyGNoble’s theoretical model. Much more to be learned about the mechanism and pathways, but ... 1) language exposure ➡️language. 2) family stress ➡️memory, cognition and emotion regulation. With emerging 🧠 evidence.
3/# @KimberlyGNoble shows no #SES disparities in brain function @ birth- measured by resting state EEG, but interestingly the brain still predicts outcome. (Note: doesn’t mean the causes are all after birth!).
4/# brain structure explains 15-44% of the income-achievement gap in these work by Mackey et al 2015 and Hair et al 2015.
5/# Now, children live in poverty more than adults (and impacted by it). Need to support our children!
6/6 The “rich” can make up over time. Even those with a jump start (for cognitive performance) can’t keep up and declines if from the “poor”. Thanks again @KimberlyGNoble @NEEDLabColumbia for the visit despite the weather!
