I've now had a thousand or more tweets attacking me for campaigning for @MollyMEP in Stroud. So let me articulate why I wanted to go. It's because I believe playing along with failing systems only delivers more failure. Our hope is to promote good people - and I believe in Molly.
That belief - that it takes good, brave people to deliver good solutions - is much more core to who I am than Remain or Leave or Labour or Tory. If you share that belief please vote for @MollyMEP - and other good MPs.
All those I've canvassed for, or offered to - Green, Labour, Lib Dem, SNP (and even one former Tory now running as an Independent) - are people I know to be decent, honourable people. I would profoundly prefer a Labour to a Tory Government but I couldn't describe Corbyn thus.

The rule about keeping secret how postal ballots are breaking is in regulation 84 of The Representation of the People (England and Wales) Regulations 2001 (as amended - the legislation.gov.uk version is not up to date).
I am not an election lawyer, but if information about how postal ballots are breaking is getting out, that does seem to me to be cause for concern, not least because logically it suggests breaches of the obligation owed by returning officers.
And if @bbclaurak is telling the truth when she says that "postal votes are looking pretty grim for Labour in a lot of parts of the country" that means that breaches of the obligation owed by returning officers is pretty widespread.

This👆is why I love @hugorifkind's writing. We all know we are sick. But we are all, even those in a position to help, looking for who makes things better. Some journalists (especially at the BBC) must do more. Perhaps lawyers, like me, should ask whether judges can do more.
@hugorifkind But, ultimately, tackling the rampant dishonesty in politics is a job that can only be done by the political parties. Labour's Manifesto doesn't really engage with the scale of the problems. But the Tory Manifesto promises virtually nothing.

1/ This case is both infuriating and sad. It echoes past moral and ethical failures while laying the groundwork for future atrocities. It also says a lot about the military’s relationship with society and the viability of the military as a profession. nytimes.com/2019/05/06/us/…
2/ With My Lai, the issue was not the ethics of those on the ground - that was black and white, murderer or not - the question was always around the military's willingness to seek and establish accountability -- paired with the will of political leaders to support those efforts
3/ In the case of My Lai, the military failed in, 1) Only prosecuting the case after relentless effort and exposure by a journalist and, 2) Failing to honor the true heroes of My Lai (Thompson, Coburn, Andreotta) until over twenty years later
