A young family man is trying to assert that the information amplified in my thread about GASLIGHTING is actually GASLIGHTING itself.
He accuses me of amplifying a mistruth, a falsehood and lies about Kenney and UCP.
The premise is that UCP is working to destroy democracy.

For several years, Conservatives in Canada have been using GASLIGHTING to manipulate the electorate and build a voter base. This is not a new tactic. Harper & Kenney have been using GASLIGHTING since the 1980’s.
Canadians just didn’t know what to call it and were left trying to describe it rather than call it out.
I know I’m not the only one who has labeled it American influence, negative campaigning, misleading narrative. But, it’s GASLIGHTING. That’s the appropriate term.

Those who have been continuously engaged politically may not have noticed the insidious creep towards bold faced lies and manipulation. It’s been introduced gradually. Slowly.

Until I wrote the thread on GASLIGHTING yesterday, I was sure Canadians were familiar with the term and could see it unfold before their eyes and ears.
Today, I’m not so convinced. I believe that’s why the thread is resonating with twitter users. Canadians want answers & truth.

The level of cognitive dissonance caused by the overuse of GASLIGHTING by Canadian Conservatives is leading to TRUTH DECAY. It is becoming increasingly difficult to determine truth from fiction.

When cognitive dissonance is the experience of the majority, truth becomes relative.
The majority of Canadians are experiencing constant cognitive dissonance. Canadians are told one thing by conservatives, but the cons beliefs, values or ideas (& policies) don’t quite fit.

That’s GASLIGHTING, causing TRUTH DECAY, leading to mass COGNITIVE DISSONANCE.
To resolve this stressful mental state of cognitive dissonance, individuals are forced to accept the pablum fed to them by cons, or spit it out in disgust and search for the real truth.

Most will swallow the pablum. That’s human nature.
It’s easier to accept what you are being told is truth and minimize the internal conflict than to search for the answers yourself. Especially when MSM, SM, political campaigns, & all cons are saying the same thing in unison.

GASLIGHTING is when one begins to question their own power to determine & judge reality. It’s not merely being lied to. It’s effort put into the lie to make you question truth as a concept.

Now Canadians have a term to describe Conservative’s behaviour (GASLIGHTING), & what that behaviour does to the political environment (TRUTH DECAY) & what to call their unease & mental anguish when their reality doesn’t reflect what they are being told (COGNITIVE DISSONANCE).

The best one yet to date, Adriana LaGrange and K-12 education funding.
First LaGrange told the public that funding had been maintained. Congratulating herself and UCP for making education a priority. Sending out positive tweets confirming funding was maintained.

Then reality set in. The public, parents, school boards, NDP and pundits created COGNITIVE DISSONANCE by refuting the budget as anything but a cut. TRUTH DECAY has not yet taken complete hold in AB. Some can still see truth and are making it known. That’s called DISSENT.
To save face in the presence of increasing criticism and amplification of truth, LaGrange attacked a school board. She receives support from MSM to minimize the COGNITIVE DISSONANCE.
Crisis averted. Now it’s just a matter of appropriate budget cuts that boards lack.

In each example, there’s evidence of a falsehood or partial truth (GASLIGHTING). Effort to reinforce the narrative as “truth” in media (TRUTH DECAY). Questions by those that are refuting the lie and offering real truth (COGNITIVE DISSONANCE) & mass acceptance of lies as reality.
