Update: A number of people got quite irritated by the tweet below a few days ago. Buttigieg just released his client list from his time at McKinsey: please note the last organization on the list.
As I noted the other day, Loblaws admitted to having illegally fixed bread prices over a 14 year period. The scheme's duration coincides with Buttigieg's time there - and he's said in the past that his specialization was grocery pricing: theglobeandmail.com/report-on-busi…
Another client named is Blue Cross Blue Shield, whose collaboration with McKinsey produced the rather ugly outcomes described in this thread. Important to note, however, that Buttigieg's release says he wasn't involved in anything related to premiums
I don't have enough expertise or knowledge to evaluate this further, so worth watching to see if @wendellpotter comments any further. As Buttigieg's first project with the company it's indeed possible his involvement with BCBS was as limited as he suggests.
@wendellpotter Buttigieg leaving himself some wiggle room here.
@wendellpotter Buttigieg's remark on Maddow also seems a bit in conflict with what he appears to have suggested at this South Bend Chamber of Commerce forum in 2011
@wendellpotter Full clip of the event is here
@wendellpotter To be clear, Buttigieg doesn't say which client he's referring to in the clip above but he does say it was an insurance company. And the list of clients he's provided doesn't mention any insurance companies besides BCBS medium.com/the-moment-by-…
@wendellpotter What Buttigieg says in his interview with Maddow when asked directly about BCBS and layoffs really isn't an explicit denial. In the clip, he mostly pivots the question to spin about M4A costing jobs at insurance companies
@wendellpotter Former insurance exec @wendellpotter has offered some further remarks on BCBS here
@wendellpotter As my colleague @meaganmday points out, the criticism Buttigieg implicitly levels at the Sanders plan in his Maddow interview glosses over something pretty important:
@wendellpotter @meaganmday Here are some further thoughts from
@wendellpotter. Let's just say his experience in the industry leaves him unconvinced by the Buttigieg campaign's explanation of the clip above
