This piece runs down something I'd been trying to myself. Over the weekend I'd gotten a heads up that there was an expectation that Trump was going to tweet out an invitation to Zelensky for a WH meeting. That invitation never happened.

One thing to note: the WH meeting is part of the impeachment articles. It's already an established lever for Trump's extortion of Ukraine into manufacturing dirt on Biden. And it still hasn't happened!
It was teed up to happen this weekend. And then it didn't. We also know that Trump talked to Rudy this weekend so 🤷‍♂️

For a while now, center left parties across the US and Europe have been losing white voters in non metro areas, particular those without advanced degrees. That's accelerated recently in the US and UK among other places.
When this trend first began to bite last decade, Thomas Frank wrote a hit book, What's The Matter with Kansas that proposed a thesis: that the New Labour/New Dem neo-liberal turn away from populist economics had left these voters with no gripping economic program to vote for.
And like loose electrons, they were easy to draw into the orbit of the Right, which was using culture war and identity politics to bind them to a conservative governing coalition. This has proven pretty prescient. Recently, we've seen right wing parties futher embrace this...

There's a bit of tension between the contention that American political culture is profoundly shaped by racism and sexism AND it's that it's crazy/wrong for voters to view white men as the "most electable."
I don't think buying the former implies the latter. Change happens when people push for it and I think it's a bad idea to model what *other voters* think.
I don't think people actually know what's electable (cf Obama) BUT also not crazy for voters, particularly voters of color to factor in this pessimistic view of the broader white electorate.

I thought this was a pretty interesting op-ed, particularly this simple advice:

I think that's pretty sound! Too often the lens for all analysis of the Dem primary and messaging is ideological: left vs center, Medicare for All vs Public Option, etc..

But even more important than a politicans specific positions are *what they emphasize.*
You can focus on and emphasize health care, education and jobs in a centrist way or a left/liberal way, but the emphasis really does matter. I think that's part of what's so smart/essential about the Green New Deal as a messaging and framing device. It centers jobs and investment

Because their strategy to remove Trump from office by getting a Special Counsel appointed to find evidence to use for impeachment so utterly failed, Democrats frantically searched for the past several months trying to find something that could replace it.
It now seems Democrats think they have at last found a real scandal they can use to move forward with impeachment hearings in the House.

conservative jews have long argued that jewish dems should abandon their party over rising antisemitism & antizionists on the left. trump's usual mangled/incoherent/stupid attempt at making that point was not a charge of duel loyalty @ U.S., & i suspect most ppl know it
what lots of ppl might not know is that the impetus for trump's comments were the actions of 2 openly antisemitic congresswomen who this week teamed up with a org that defended suicide bombers & accused jews of f'ing BLOOD LIBEL. that barely gets any coverage.
if trump is going to tweet out wayne allyn root praising him as the 'king of israel' and 'second coming,' he deserves to be mocked. but the fact is the squad--and other dems-support real-life policies that target jews. trump does't.
