As a Jew who’s proud of his heritage I’ve been called:

-racist
-white supremacist
-Jewish supremacist
-colonialist
-thief
-baby killer
-apartheid apologist
-zionazi
-terrorist
-ethnic cleanser

I’ve been told to go back to Europe too many times times to count.

These accusations have come from every end of the spectrum, and even a few from those claiming to be a part of our community.

That my paternal grandparents fled Yemen and restarted their lives in Tel-Aviv during the 30s doesn’t seem to matter.

2/
Due to immense difficulties and early injustices my community is propped up, by antisemites and the ignorant, as tools to demonize the very country my grandparents fled to for survival.

3/
The country where they privately own the land that they lived and worked on, something that they didn’t have in Yemen, is now being deemed as stolen.

Our community’s fight for equality and justice is not for those seeking to dismantle the country they fled to.

4/
Just as I am one person I am sure others will feel the need to disagree. They’re entitled to their opinion, as am I. For the life of me though I will never understand those opinions. However, when the opinion turns to advocating for our destruction then there is a problem.

5/
The normalization of this hateful rhetoric as “legitimate criticism”, which is no longer in the fringe sections, harms Jews everywhere. There’s nothing constructive about it. It doesn’t move us closer to peace, in fact it has the opposite effect.

6/
We saw the effect constant piling on of demonizing rhetoric towards Jews had in Nazi Germany. They also had the mentality that it was “legitimate criticism”. Today this rhetoric is shifted towards Israel. Yet the effect being felt isn’t limited to Israel.

7/
Just look at rhetoric being used to describe Israelis and even Jews living in the Diaspora from those claiming to just be “antizionist”.

Imagine being asked “how many babies have you killed today?” just because you’re a Jew who believes in your people’s self determination.

8/
That rhetoric festers hate which directly leads to discrimination, dehumanization, and attacks. Today we have a strong Israel, but every single one that’s helped fan the flames of this baseless demonization will be complicit if the proverbial shit hits the fan.

9/
Jews are packing their bags in the UK after years of being gaslighted about their concerns.

Jews are being shot in synagogues and shops, being beaten on the street, and having their cemeteries defaced across the US and Europe.

10/
If you’ve ever called a Jew, Israeli or not, any of the things in the first tweet simply for being a proud Zionist—for being a proud Jew—your fake outrage to the rising antisemitism can take a seat.
