Just throwing out there. The IG blasts FBI for not disclosing in FISA that Page had once been an operational contact for another government agency (CIA). He was an asset from 2008 through 2013. But ...
They should have disclosed this to DOJ lawyers and the FISA court, IG says. Kind of exculpatory evidence and went to state of mind. Maybe he was interacting with Ruskies to help U.S. or at least his intent was to help U.S., not spy on it, right?
His last contact with the CIA was in 2011, however. He was targeted for recruitment by the Russian intel services two years later -- in 2013, according to court records.
The lead FBI agent told the IG he felt the information provided by the CIA about its contacts with Page (2008 thru 2011) (operational contact 2008-2013) was dated and didn't need to be included. The FBI relied on the historical recruitment, in part, to obtain FISA warrant.
Much of that info is redacted in the public versions of the FISA app, so it's kind of hard to see where it's going. But the Russians are mentioned by name and reference efforts to recruit people in nyc area. aka page, though he is not named. Here: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4614…
So were his ties to CIA dated, as FBI agent told IG? Page was providing info to CIA about his contacts with Russia through 2011. But Russia attempted to recruit him in 2013. Does the FBI agent have a point? (Oh, and I love how the Russians describe Page):
