I don't like Bernie's platform, but I'm sympathetic to it. The minimum wage hike and job guarantee would basically eliminate all small businesses. As a civic republican and a proponent of geo-distributist property-owning democracy, I think that's a bad move.
At the same time, Medicare for All (M4A) plus a Federal Job Guarantee (FJG) could loosen the hold of wage slavery. We'd still be wage slaves, but we'd be relatively more free (in a liberal sense, if not in a republican sense).
I'm currently stuck with my current job. At one point, I had $30k in the bank. It would have been nice to take a year off work to find myself. But, health insurance is linked to employment & the shitty economy made finding new employment as money dwindled seem uncertain at best.
If there were M4A and a FJG, those concerns would have been addressed. I could have easily taken a year off to delve into meditation and spirituality. Of course, I'd still be a wage slave because eventually, after funds diminished, wage-work would be my only option again.
Nevertheless, the burden of wage-slavery would be lessened. Yet, I do have doubts about implementation. FJG will be hard to administer and make work anyway; and, when the GOP is in power, they'll likely sabotage FJG. UBI will be nearly impossible for them to go after.
Andrew Yang's platform, M4A+UBI, is genuinely better. It is more emancipatory (in both a liberal and in a republican sense). Also, it helps small businesses and will move us in a more libertarian and decentralized direction. This sits well with my left-libertarian leanings.
