A white collar crime expert tells me their case is sound as a matter of law.

Remember, DOJ declined to criminally investigate the whistleblower complaint, after a top CIA lawyer referred it.

A full reckoning must get to the bottom of that, too.

White House blocked Mulvaney and others from testifying, saying House impeachment was illegitimate.

But McConnell can't argue his own Senate trial is illegitimate. So that excuse is kaput.

So if Senate Rs rig the trial, it has terrible implications:

Let's be clear on what Trump is really saying now.

He's claiming impeachment is illegitimate on the grounds that the majority that elected the House has no legitimate claim to political representation.

It's almost a form of mysticism.

It's no accident that this idea is reappearing in the wake of his impeachment:

Just an extraordinary achievement, impeaching Trump with almost no defections, in this disaster of a media environment, amid a deafening roar of GOP disinformation about Dem disarray.

I wanted a broader impeachment. But this secured near-total Dem unity. Pelosi pulled it off.
This is also a huge achievement by all those who organized for months to make this happen, including when Ds were too reluctant to take the plunge.

Those folks faced relentless ridicule from large swaths of the political spectrum, but they are the true battlers for rule of law.
