As we prepare for Trump's impeachment, let's remember why we've come to this point.

In every conceivable way, Trump and his defenders have worked to place him beyond the reach of accountability and the law entirely.

Trump claims that on his call with Zelensky, he was acting in the national interest.

But Trump omits that he told Zelensky to contact his *personal lawyer,* which would undercut that lie:

It's almost a form of mysticism.

Just an extraordinary achievement, impeaching Trump with almost no defections, in this disaster of a media environment, amid a deafening roar of GOP disinformation about Dem disarray.

I wanted a broader impeachment. But this secured near-total Dem unity. Pelosi pulled it off.
This is also a huge achievement by all those who organized for months to make this happen, including when Ds were too reluctant to take the plunge.

Those folks faced relentless ridicule from large swaths of the political spectrum, but they are the true battlers for rule of law.
