I wonder how much generational wealth is destroyed by the insanely high cost assisted living. The retirement home my grandparents (who were not wealthy but were frugal) lived in cost something like $90k a year. You can imagine how much was left after they died (nothing).
My girlfriend's grandmother just died and same story. She and her husband spent their entire lives saving and it all evaporated in the last five years of their lives.
Such a cool system!! You save and save and save only to leave it all to Golden Era Senior Living or whatever.
This will not be my parents' story because I'm going to move them into my house. And then kill them.
I would love to hear presidential candidates pressed on this at the debates (or anywhere!) but probably we’ll get half a dozen questions about The First Thing They Will Do In Office instead.
