A new colleague just stopped by my desk to inquire about these awesome signs @postguild made for the #equalpay campaign and what men like him could do to help. I was so taken aback I just stared at him for a minute.

No man has EVER asked me that. EVER.
Being aware of the challenges women and people of color face when it comes to #equalpay is a huge first step. But if you want to be as awesome as @EricMGarcia and need some advice, here’s mine:
1 - Share your salary! Being transparent with your own salary can really help women know where they fall on the pay scale. And including extra details, like previous experience, advance degrees, years in the company, etc., help us to calculate our own salary.

NC may just become the 38th state to ratify the #ERA this year!

NC State Senator @EricaforUSSen20 made NC history Thursday filing a discharge petition to free ERA bill S184 from committee to force a floor vote this session! 1/

@ratifyERAorg
@EricaforUSSen20 @ratifyeraOrg @EricaforUSSen20 employed the same Discharge Petition process first used by US Rep. Martha Griffiths in 1970 to force Congress to vote on the #ERA. Introduced in 1923, the #ERA bill was ignored for 47 years! That is 'til Rep. Griffith got fed up! 2/
@EricaforUSSen20 @ratifyeraOrg US Rep. Griffiths initiated a Discharge Petition, a method lawmakers use to free a bill intentionally buried in committee. By gathering enough petition signatures, Griffiths' #ERA DP forced a floor vote and accountability on her colleagues. in 1972, Congress passed #ERA and..3/

#Resistance family: I pretty much dropped off of twitter for a couple weeks, dealing with personal shit and trying to check my rage and restlessness with the status quo. And, of course, everything is worse now, and in a couple more weeks, it will be even more worse. 1/
I'm tired. Of the fact that this Administration continues to defile our country with impunity. Tired of racists (becoming more emboldened by the day). Tired of cops getting away with (literally) murder. Tired of human beings being locked in cages like animals. 2/
I'm tired of the fact that brown Americans are made to feel as though they're not Americans (even those born here). It makes me tired that, as each day brings us closer to school starting, my stomach ties into knots, thinking about what could happen to my children there, 3/

Here is the video that was deleted of US women's soccer player behaving like a complete and total trash individual.

#USWNTParade
Feminsts will try and say these women are being wrongly persecuted because they are women. WRONG! If a men's National team behaved this way, they would get harshly criticized also.
Warriors forward Draymond Green is a trash talker of the highest order and he got drunk at all the parades after they won a championship but he never behaved this way . But that is a local team not a team that reprents the entire country. This behavior is disgusting. PERIOD!

Her name is Poppy Northcutt, and she's the first female engineer to work in Mission Control at @NASA_Johnson #Apollo8.
For half a century, pop culture has immortalized a group of quick-thinking, pocket-protected men as the face of NASA’s mission control room during the Apollo program. But amid this sea of men, was one woman: Frances “Poppy” Northcutt, engineer and return-to-Earth specialist #NASA

On average, women are paid eighty cents on the dollar compared to their male counterparts. In Virginia, that number is $0.78. It’s not right, and we need to do more to achieve #EqualPay across the country. Let’s start by passing the #PaycheckFairnessAct. #EqualPayDay
Let’s also recognize that this disparity is even greater for women of color. #EqualPayDay for Black women will fall on August 22nd, followed by Native American women on September 23rd, and Latino women on November 20th.
We know that the gender pay gap exists all across the economy, stemming from a number of factors including discrimination, implicit bias, barriers to entry and advancement in certain fields, and the responsibilities of parenting that disproportionately fall to women.

Today is “#EqualPayDay.”

There are a lot of ridiculous holidays—from “International Talk Like a Pirate Day” to “Have a Party With Your Bear Day” to “Bubble Gum Day.”
But “Equal Pay Day” is something worse. It’s a misleading effort designed to make women feel like they’re all, inevitably, being short-changed in their workplaces. That’s not the case.
Here’s the truth:
✅ Wage discrimination is illegal and has been in the U.S. since 1963, when the Equal Pay Act was signed into law.
✅ The 1964 Civil Rights Act also protects women from baseless gender discrimination in the workplace.

Just came out of Democracy Commission to obv crushing news. Would be easy to descend into doom. Just remember that’s what Tories wanted their 50% shitty threshold to do. They want us demoralised. Resist! We have a lot to assess + do. We need to build. We need resources to do it/1
A lot of us did a lot of work on GTVO. We’re knackered. We reached a lot of ppl+got strong YES result. What can we learn+do? Must reflect+organise together at every level. How can we boost creative ideas like those at HESC in November and reach more ppl? Eg ntnl phonebanking? /2
We need deep diving on what holds some members back from voting. Research we did @leedsucu last time gave us a mixed picture of timing, ballot confusion+fatigue, key messages not getting across. Has this changed? Have we succeeded in some areas/dropped others or stayed same?/3

Been thinking about a conversation last night at a dear friend’s birthday party with several academics in attendance, wrt GTVO, the current ballot for #securework #equalpay #fairpayinhe+ fair #workload & #defendUSS: important messages we need to get out there before too late! /1
Fundamentally we all need to understand *any* ballot result we get on any issue affects our bargaining power in *all* other areas. I don’t think this point can’t be hammered home enough. Casualised colleagues who don’t yet qualify for #USS came out in number bc they got this /2
Pre-Trade Union Act 2016 we’d have been dancing on tables celebrating our last ballot result bc we got to about 42% turnout taken on aggregate + HUGE vote for action. The threshold provides a “fake news” cover for employers to pretend turnout <50% means no strength of feeling /3

🍑Lucy McBath @LucyWins2018: Mother, Wife, Businesswoman, Activist for Social Justice.

🗣️You might recognize her from the 2016 #Democratic Convention: she represented Mothers of the Movement, a group of women whose African American children have been killed by gun violence.
🍑She intended to run for the #Georgia Legislature, but after the Parkland #Florida shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, she decided her aspirations weren’t high enough. #NeverAgainMSD #BeAVoter
🍑She’s running for Congress in George’s 6th District and could use your help because she’s in a tight race. She’s running against the SAME NRA-backed, A-rated Republican that Jon Ossoff ran against in a runoff election in June 2017. Ossoff should have won back then.

I have been totally transparent that I support women candidates.

I created #FlipItFemale (I think--parallel generation happens on here a lot).

Women are 52% of the US population and 15% representation.

If there are 2 progressive candidates and one is female, #vote her.

1/
Representation matters.
Right now women are in a literal fight for our lives against the Trump-led #GOP juggernaut that wants to eviscerate every protection based on sex that women have fought for for decades like #EqualPay #ReproRights & #TitleIX.

We need women in Congress.
2/
We've been told #FlipItFemale is "identity politics" when it's actually majority politics. White men are the minority--why do they wield all the power?

Men with lesser resumes and experience than women rise because of structural #misogyny.

Change that by voting for women.

On the 170th anniversary of the Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls where suffragists proudly proclaimed that "all men AND women are created equal," it's sad we're still striving to achieve that vision. It's why I introduce the Equal Rights Amendment every Congress, and...
...why I proudly voted for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that President Obama signed into law, and continue to work to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to bolster enforcement of our pay discrimination laws so my daughter & granddaughter don't face the same wage gap my mother did
