i think one of the biggest problems we've got on the left (and i have been guilty of this) is that we think good stuff and accurate history just *happens*. it doesn't. we have to make it happen. we have to say what truly happened to affect the histories. the facts dont just win.
if we keep this lean-back posture up, history will remember george w bush and trump with the same gauzy image it has of reagan.
conservatives are extremely good in yammering loudly about their icons and their ideas. liberals have thought we can merely debunk those assertions without pushing our story and that the facts will just magically win out. it does not work.
one of the things president clinton did much better than president obama is that when he accomplished something, he and his team would say "look at that thing we did, wasn't it good?" president obama rarely did this other than during election season.
obama was a big believer in "the facts will get to the people and they'll figure it out." it isn't true.
