NPR wl collect ONLY info/particulars abt you&family. NO documents

Acc to CitizenshipRules,2003, particulars collected during NPR wl be verified/scrutinized by Local Registrar who can mark anyone as DOUBTFUL CITIZEN even B4 checking docs

You wl be informed only after verificatn
NPR might not make any list of doubtful. BUT NRC will make, based on information collected during NPR

The existing Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003 is draconian. This is more dangerous than POTA and UAPA
If Local Registrar can doubt your citizenship only based on information/particulars collected during NPR &

IF any person any file objection against your citizenship. 2003 Rules is indeed dangerous than POTA & UAPA

No cause of action was required to file objection in Assam NRC

I hope this govt realize that nationwide NRC is NOT an option. You can't ask entire nation to queue up to prove citizenship. Unimaginable harassment apart, There is NOTHING more humiliating than to be asked to prove citizenship in your own country.
You must have heard many stories of harassment and even suicide because of NRC. Let me tell you how people felt humiliated in the NRC exercise in Assam

After the final Draft of NRC was published, 40 lacs excluded people were asked to submit their biometric details
I got a call from a 77 years old Bengali Hindu Retd Mathematics professor. (He spoke polished English, later when I met him I got to know he is a voracious reader.)

He called me in choked voice and asked if I could help him as he don't want to submit his biometrics.

Yesterday was a very unsettling day. Met family members of MamiranNessa

She is in detention centre since 2010.When she was detained,her youngest son was 2,anr 9yrs old. Both brothers were brought up by elder sister who was still a minor, she dropped out of school &worked as maid
The youngest son was taken to detention centre twice in last 9 years. He don't recognize his mother

Their father couldn't eat and sleep and slowly fell ill, he was mostly confined to bed. In last 9 years he went to detention centre only once to see his wife
He couldn't muster courage to see his wife again behind bar.

2 months ago he suffered a cardiac arrest and died, his final wish to see his wife free remain unfulfilled. Till now Momiran has not been told about the death of her husband.

Falu Das (70) was detained in Goalpara detention centre since 2017. He died yesterday

Even Preamble of our Constitution promises "Dignity of Individuals"

FORGET about Right to live with dignity, Falu Das was not even allowed to die with dignity

OUTRAGEOUS is an understatement!
This comes after a week of death of Dulal Chandra Paul, who also died in detention. His family accepted his body after a week.

In the last 3 years 26 detainess died in various detention centres of Assam. They are not entitled to parole, but after death the body is handed over to Indian family.

During Pilot Project in 7 states, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa, #Smartmatic collected biometric and demographic data of approx 2 lakh Indians which was stored in machines used for data collection – the PARmobiles.

We don’t need Amit Shah to tell us whether or not NPR will lead to the NRC/NRIC.

NPR ke through aapse parents ka place of birth/ date of birth liya jayega,
Phir usi data ke through "doubtful citizens" ko identify kiya jayega,
Phir unse citizenship prove karne ke liye kaha jayega,
Phir NRC banega.
See what the Citizenship Rules, 2003 under which the NPR is being made clearly states:
- Local Registrar will verify and scrutinize the particulars collected of every individual.
- Doubtful individuals will be then informed after the verification is over.
And then, after giving an opportunity to such doubtful individuals for proving their citizenship, a decision will be taken to include or exclude their particulars in the National Register of Indian Citizens.

Doing a thread on #NPR

To understand NPR, we need to understand wars & migration. The idea NPR came after the war with kargil in 1999. Where pakistanis entered India in civil clothes and we couldn't identify them. #IndiaAgainstCAA #IndiaAgainstNRC
So after the kargil war, there was conference of all chief ministers on internal security on 17-11-2001. This is where the idea of Multi Purpose National Identity Card was proposed and the idea of National Population Registrar was born to identify citizens from aliens.
Then the office of the registrar general of India framed rules on how this will be done, the idea of bio-metrics to be collected was formulated as early as 2003. So #Aadhaar was not the first time private sector use of id or biometrics was thought of. They wanted 16 parameters

Went to vote today in the advance polls for #KingTownship today. Hadn't received my registration card in the mail but I went anyhow because #democracy.

I had some questions too.
Upon arriving, I was told that I wasn't registered for #municipal voting, and that it was up to me to make sure that I was registered for every election.

So I filled out my document and registered at the polls. Then I voted, as you do.
Now, my address has been the same for the past 16 years. I've been eligible to vote for the last 6.

So why are my parents the only ones in our household who receive voter cards? Why isn't this data already available? 🤔
