It's #ChristmasEve and at this time last year I did not think I would live to see another #Christmas.
It has been a really hard year for me and The Wife. I have had some major health setbacks and a lot of suffering, but I am still alive and what a gift that is.

I want to thank all my Twitter friends and followers for helping me through this year. Thank you for reading and supporting my work. Thank you for buoying my spirits when I have been at my lowest points. Thank you for being a community of activists and resisters and fighters.

It can be deeply isolating to be a journalist in this climate. It can be deeply isolating to be sick and #disabled in this very ableist society. When I've needed the solace of community, I've been able to find it here. Thank you so much.

While I understand the need to winnow the field & Thursday's debate had more room for more discourse with fewer onstage, why can't there at least be a lower-polling debate? As I noted Thursday, I really felt the loss of Harris especially, but also Castro and Booker on stage.
This isn't 2016 when all the candidates were white and Hillary was to some degree Obama's heir-apparent. We began with six women and five POC. There are still five POC in the race (Harris out, Patrick in), but only one onstage. The absence is really apparent.
Sanders can turn every conversation about race, gender or LGBTQ to the billionaire class, but the fact is 75% of America is women and POC. White men are the minority. Maybe we should have a debate with just women and POC candidates? #RepresentationMatters

Several years ago being doxxed and harassed so soon after I'd nearly been killed by a serial rapist put me in the hospital with something called "broken heart syndrome." It happens a lot to women--brought on by extreme stress. How many women on here have had it?
What @magi_jay says is real. All @m_mendozaferrer did was tweet out videos by and news stories about a candidate. These men's own words are the problem, not the women highlighting how problematic they are. Stop being a participant in harming women and terrorizing their families.
And a reminder to the handful of women propping up the patriarchy in these attacks: Internalized misogyny is still misogyny and there is no progressivism on the planet that says women should be harmed so men can succeed. That's the literal antithesis.

One of my besties from Louisiana, where I used to live, just shared this story with me. We ALL need this story today.

LSU's QB, #JoeBurrow, won the #HeismanTrophy. During his speech, he talked about how where he's from, Athens County, is the poorest part of the state.

Athens Co has double the national poverty rate. Kids go home from school hungry and there's nothing to eat.
Since Burrows' speech LSU fans and others have donated $500k to the Athens County food bank--and now it's spreading to food banks in Baton Rouge.

So while Trump is literally taking food away from poor people by cutting #SNAP, a college kid is raising awareness and getting help for kids with nothing to eat. In the #DemDebate @amyklobuchar said we need to remember our Dem values are morality and decency. This is that.

Last night, I was biking home and got hit by a car that was going very fast. I flew off my bike and landed on my back, and thought I might be seriously injured for a short but terrifying stretch of time. But I didn't call an ambulance, because I was worried about the cost.
I probably should've called. I laid in the street moaning in pain for a bit. But the guy who hit me had stopped and helped me on my feet, and I realized I could stand up. So the first thing I did on my feet was weigh how injured I might be with how much an ambulance would cost.
I'm lucky. It could've easily been so much worse. The guy who hit me was very apologetic, acknowledged immediately that it was his fault, that he wasn't looking as he made a turn through a green light, agreed to pay for whatever, called me today to check up on me.
