So recently I signed up for a virtual challenge through @myvmission, where you walk, run and jog the length of Hadrian's Wall. Apt, considering my past.

Here's a thread where I track my progress (and indicate the nearest archaeological sites each day). /1
Day 1 // I made it about 13.8 miles, just outside Heddon-on-the-Wall, where one of the largest sections of 'broad wall' (the wall at its widest and most developed) can be found.
Day 2 // Just east of the village of East Wallhouses and the remnants of Milecastle 18 - one of many fortifications along the wall. 4.47 miles jogged.
Day 3 // Approaching Halton Chesters, site of the Roman fort of Onnum - designed to guard Dere Street, one of the significant Roman roads across the north of the province of Britannia. 4.47 miles jogged.
Day 4 // My workout took me 13.5 km to just south of Chollerford, where, nearby in 633, the Dark Age 'Battle of Heavenfield' between the Welsh and Northumbrians took place. 13.5 elliptical.
Day 5 // I got rat-arsed last night with two different groups of friends, so this was a rest day. 0km.
Day 6 // A session on the elliptical at the gym had me within shouting distance of the Roman Army Museum, near Walltown Quarry Country Park. 4.47 miles completed.
Day 7 // Another elliptical session took me past Lanercost Priory, founded by Augustinian canons in the 12th century. 4.47 miles completed.
Day 8 // Heading towards Carlisle, a pretty intense elliptical session took me to the village of Crosby on Eden, that looks lovely. It's on the Stanegate, the Roman road that led to Hadrian's Wall. 8.9 miles completed.
Day 9 // Elliptical at the gym took me to Beaumont, where there is a really nice preserved part of the wall. 8.69 miles completed.
