To understand our political moment is to understand the Republican Party is riddled with a terminal affliction and is more than willing to undermine every law and institution to ensure it retains power in the face of declining electoral viability.

It’s not something that’s just easily curable. Republicans aren’t going to just wake up. Good faith gestures aren’t going to fix it. It’s not a posture. It’s a disease. Trump is a symptom. And you can’t lead this country without understanding how deep it runs.
Gifting Republicans respectability, treating this like political strategy within a tradition, behaving as if they’re not engaged in anti-democratic, fascistic behavior only enables them and endangers all of us. This is a crisis. It’s not just politics as usual.
