this question deserves its own thread

there are several things you can do to pursue a freelance/writer-ly path, and it ultimately depends on your personality, your values, the decisions you want to make

I'll walk you through how I've come to think about it / how I'd start over
the simplest thing is just, well, "tweet 100,000 tweets". whatever it takes to get to that point, you'll figure out stuff along the way. I've bashed around in the underbrush partially to spare you the pitfalls & dead ends. still, worth mentioning anyway, because volume is 🔥
it helps a lot early on (figured this out with a couple of my alts) to have a strong sense of what your positioning is. you can change this later! I personally took a v long time bc I was adamant on "not limiting myself". but that's kind of a false idea
because there's an infinite amount of things you can say about anything. so it helps to pick a *relatively* narrow-ish set of infinities.

clarity of positioning is tremendous because it helps you know who to talk to, and it helps those people see that they ought to talk to you
once you've figured out some sense of what your positioning is – 2 things that you're "about" (you want to make sure it's aligned with your actual interest/curiosity) – you should then DO THE WORK YOU WISH EXISTED

important: does NOT matter if it's bad

once you figure out a sense of your positioning

and you START work on things that YOU think SHOULD exist

and you've followed + talked with people who are in that space

people will literally TELL you what to write, and help you get better at it

that's a lot of stuff, so to circle back:

Figure out your positioning. make a list of everything you like and care about, everything you love, everything that's inspired you, and try to identify gaps, and/or connections. ask others how they think about you, what stands out
I think people are often surprised at how surprisingly unique positioning can emerge from a very small set of "points of focus". And how a good bit of positioning, while seemingly "ultra-specific", ends up being very interesting to a general audience
anyway i'm going to bed

if you've DM'd me about marketing consulting and I haven't gotten back to you yet, I'll do it tomorrow!
