Faced with China continuing to purchase Iranian crude, an inability to stop it and Europe's continued political support for the Iran deal forcing it into a closer relation with China and Russia on the matter, the US has needed to strike a decisive blow.
Whilst the JCPOA has essentially been practically dead for a while now, the US strike is intended as a killing blow, forcing Brussels to drop the matter. This very well might be the case, but the case for a reallignment of the EU imperialist bloc will gain audience if it does.
China and Russia, for their part, may well tighten their military alliance with Iran in the face of the US' advance. If they do so, the spread of war is quite likely and present. The US' front in Ukraine may be collapsing in EU-Russian peace talks, Hong Kong is very much active.
The most immediate and pressing threat is to the region and Iran itself, as indicated by the US' chosen staring deployment location: Iraq. Not only is this tactically opportune with the naval pincer it has developed in the Gulf, it is hugely symbolic.
War with Iran will mean rapid escalation across the whole Middle East and Northern Africa. Israel and Turkey will seize the opportunity to advance again in Palestine, Syria and Libya. Saudi Arabia will join in the war on Iran and further its genocidal campaign in Yemen.
It is correct to highlight that those facing the most immediate and dire impact of this contest will be felt in the oppressed world, but we must explain that its motor is to found in a global war. What the US is doing is intended to preserve its dominance.
The US is now an energy exporter. It's intent here is to cause a regional war not only to bring Iranian oil exports to a standstill - its stated objective - but to bring the region's to a standstill. It is intentionally bringing chaos to advance an interest.
The intent of this is to secure allies for its struggle against Russia and China, forcing its energy supply upon Europe, Canada and so on and thus rendering them dependent upon it even as its global influence wanes. This policy is also being pursued with regard to Nord Stream 2.
Action in Iran is part of a global campaign that could well erupt into a third world war. Whilst I agree the motivation behind these hashtags erupting is generally chauvanist, we mustn't waste the opportunity to outline the broader contradictions here.
