This event is specifically targeting the Virginia Senate Courts of Justice committee. The NRA is trying to turn out its members in order to have face-to-face discussions with their lawmakers on the committee. They want to stop the gun-control bills as early as possible.

Democrats only have a two-vote majority in the senate and a five-vote majority in the house. Plus Democrat leadership has already backtracked on a total ban of possession of AR-15s and similar guns, saying instead they'll be grandfathered and registered.
To block any of the proposed gun-control bills (several more were proposed yesterday) only a handful of Democrats need to be flipped. Gun-rights groups are now trying to direct the grassroots enthusiasm of the Second Amendment sanctuary movement towards Richmond.
The NRA is using emails, texts, and post cards to turn the members out to the January 13th committee meeting. Magpul will also be giving away free 30-round magazines to attendees.
