Today's story of the day by Climate correspondent @EricHolthaus could become our collective story of the decade – if we decide here and now that we want it to be.
In 2030 we ended the climate emergency. Here's how: +

Last year @EricHolthaus asked:
"What absolutely must change in the next 10 years?"
Here's your vision:
+
– #Climatestrikes will escalate catalysing urgent revolutionary policy to tackle the #climatecrisis
– We'll finally realise that saving the earth means saving ourselves
+
– A new US president will pass a series of legislative changes to bring about a #GreenNewDeal to decentralise political power from the extractive industries that have concentrated wealth for centuries
+
– We'll begin climate reparations and start the process of decentralising political power on a global scale
– We'll reach #peakglobalemissions and stop accelerating towards our own destruction
+
– Fossil fuel execs will be tried for crimes against humanity
– #Ecocide tribunals will hold #climatecriminals to account
We've lost so much, but there's *so* much left to fight for.
+
– We'll electrify everything and focus on alternative greenhouse gases
– We'll listen to the wisdom of farmers and radically reform agriculture
+
– We'll return to sustainable techniques were nature thrives, such as intercropping
– We'll relearn what we've forgotten and build a #circulareconomy this year
+
That is what we have to do now in the first days of 2020, writes @EricHolthaus. Dream unashamedly big dreams.
+
This is one vision, one way forward. But there are infinite others.
What do you imagine success on climate change will look and feel like in this decade?
End.
