1/ This is like a person showing up at their job and it's one of the most important jobs in the country and they have absolutely no idea how to do it and so they just talk nonsense about it hoping everyone will not notice

2/ Another example is Pompeo and other Iran briefers showing up at a Congressional meeting and telling members of Congress that even if something is on TV already, if we mention it here you can't ever discuss it

One thing that troubles me about Maggie is how credulous she is about how aloof Trump is. I think that if instead of being a very talented journalist she'd been a very talented public defender, she'd understand how *frequently* longtime criminals play with aloofness as a defense.
PS/ I know many people have a problem with Maggie; often I do too. But I also was a criminal investigator for a period of time, so I know how difficult it is, and how incredibly skilled you have to be, just to get people to talk to you when it's not necessarily in their interest.
PS2/ I think, when I put my journalism professor hat on, Maggie could do a better job of striking a balance between access and incisiveness and independence, but also think we're being naive if we say there isn't often a significant tension between those 3 journalistic skillsets.

When people apologize, I give them credit. I think you have to; if we don't, we create a world in which no one apologizes because doing so changes nothing and is never acknowledged. So I've a lot of words to say about Collins, including about this thread, but won't say them here.
PS/ The response to tweets like this is always the same: "No, he doesn't deserve *any* credit, to get *credit* he'd have had to [X]...."

I'm old enough to know that game goes on forever. The acknowledgment of an apology having occurred never arrives, and people stop apologizing.
PS2/ Way more people read Twitter than watch Fox News. *Way* more. If your argument is that Fox News viewers don't read Twitter or Collins "buried this" by putting it on Twitter...well...I think my earlier point (which is about me, too, and how I react to things) is being made...

Wow. This says Trump simply "came across" disinformation about Clinton and Biden as part of a "mistake," then belatedly chose to amplify it.

No.

The facts are coming out and will continue to come out. Trump and his team *hunted* for—in some cases *created*—the disinformation.
PS/ This sort of profoundly ahistoric take on the Ukraine scandal is the *product* of the way the story has been told, admittedly—sad to say—by House Democrats, who've focused on one phone call and constitutional (rather than statutory) violations. No—this was way more than that.
PS2/ There was a *team* of seedy lobbyists, criminals, and attorneys scouring Ukraine for fake news—sometimes creating it—and pumping it into America. Names everyone should know: diGenova. Toensing. Cummins. Sessions. Parnas. Fruman. Giuliani. Sargeant. Harvey. Patel. Others.

I know, abusers isolate people, but at a certain point, "You married someone who acts like a jerk to all your friends, it's not a mystery why your social calendar is shrinking" HAS to sink in, right?

No one can still in denial about what Daenerys is after she just burned a million women, children and men with impunity.

There's also no way we can blame this on bad writing, because it's not. It's the culmination of years of hollow morals. And it's also brilliant.
It's horrific, tragic, and brilliant. And it's high time for a lot of people to wake up and look critically at what they've been stanning, because the point of this story is very much about them. It's about anyone who has uncritically stanned unchecked, destructive power.
There's a quote by George RR Martin where he likens Dany's dragons to atomic bombs, and to me it summarises a lot of the intent behind her character. Martin goes on to say that ”You can have the power to destroy, but it doesn't give you the power to reform, or improve, or build.”
