Russia’s hacking of Burisma is significant - and sets up the playbook it perfected in 2016. 1- Steal emails of US presidential candidate. 2- Release those emails to the public. 3- Time that release for maximum effect. 1/
2/ Remember, Russia stole DNC emails and then released them right in the midst of the Democratic convention. Russia stole Podesta emails & released them 22 minutes (!!) after release of Access Hollywood tape.
3/ Russian military intelligence - the GRU - was behind the DNC and Podesta email hacks and appears to be behind Burisma hack as well.
4/ Question now is how the US would react if Russia follows the same strategy. Will news media report the stolen information? Will US candidates including the president seek to take advantage? More broadly, will foreign interference be normalized?

This has enormous implications for the Iranian government. Half the passengers were Iranians. (Many Canadians as well). And Iranian leaders are still excoriating the US for accidental shoot-down of an Iranian airliner in 1988.
Punctures in fuselage indicating possible explosion outside the aircraft (as would occur with a missile) had already attracted the attention of some investigators. Similar marks were visible on wreckage of MH17.

It is dangerously naive to think Iran’s response to the Suleimani killing is over. Iran is expert at “shadow war” tactics, that is, attacks via proxies and with plausible deniability and, often, after delays. 1/
2/ We’ve seen two such attacks in the last several months: the mines placed on oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and the drone/missile attack on Saudi oil facilities. Iran never claimed responsibility.
3/ Morever, Iran has been known to wait before retaliating. See the cyber attack on Sheldon Adelson’s casinos months after his comments calling for detonating a nuclear bomb in the Iranian desert.

Here are 13 reasons why statements by @SenJohnKennedy & other GOP lawmakers re Ukraine are fundamentally misleading:

1- Russia interfered in 2016, turbo-charged by cyber means, to a degree no foreign power ever has in a US election.
2- No one, including US intel, the GOP-led Senate Intel Cmte, & private cyber security firms Crowdstrike & FireEye, express doubts about this. Only Trump and his most loyal allies do.
