It is dangerously naive to think Iran’s response to the Suleimani killing is over. Iran is expert at “shadow war” tactics, that is, attacks via proxies and with plausible deniability and, often, after delays. 1/
2/ We’ve seen two such attacks in the last several months: the mines placed on oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and the drone/missile attack on Saudi oil facilities. Iran never claimed responsibility.
3/ Morever, Iran has been known to wait before retaliating. See the cyber attack on Sheldon Adelson’s casinos months after his comments calling for detonating a nuclear bomb in the Iranian desert.
4/ Officials I’ve spoken with are particularly worried about cyber attacks, attacks on US diplomats overseas and attacks on oil facilities and tankers.
