The Australian continent is geologically stable, a mature nuclear science base, and has roughly a third of the world’s proven uranium reserves...hint as to your ‘green energy’ solution....
If you will the ends you will the means etc. It is simply bonkers for Australia to have the same argument for a decade when a clean energy solution like nuclear - which reliably provides c70% of French power - is there for both sides to get what they want

One day will do a mini thread on the Gorton Govt’s late 1960s proposal for the Murrays Beach nuclear power station in the Jervis Bay Territory - you can see its foundations - ironically shelved in c1971 because coal fired power was thought to be a cheaper fix into the future
Excellent piece by @Adam_Creighton on why the 'nuclear option' makes sense for Australia as a baseload and zero emissions power source. Not to mention nuclear avoids the Solyndra-like corruptions of renewables' subsidies & rent-seeking.

On even the most narrow view of the inherent right of self-defence, the US was lawfully entitled to act against Soleimani/IRGC, especially in circumstances where Iran's proxies had attacked the US' Baghdad Embassy & Iran had 'form' in attacking US diplomatic & military personnel
I cannot believe that a proposition so obvious has to be stated but here we are. International law confers upon a nation not only a right of self defence against an armed attack but also against an attack that is imminent. No state is required to first suffer an attack.
The question of imminence is one that people will debate but a nation's right of anticipatory self-defence does not require specific time/place for enemy attack. Where your enemy is determined and mobile, the criteria of imminence becomes correspondingly more fluid than fixed.

Artist formerly known as the Battersea Power Station is down there....always something to land at Heathrow on a roughly similar approach as Luftwaffe bombers took along Thames but then turn north to bomb midlands - my late grandfather (served in WW1) was an air raid warden in WW2
There are very good books on pre WW2 London and you can see what it looked like pre bombing and then the often awful rebuilding postwar. If people wonder why British nostalgia for standing alone in WW2 is such a force in 2019, the often ugly rebuilt environment is a reminder
Should note that I recently wrote a piece praising Clement Attlee even though my father and his parents were postwar economic refugees from Attlee’s socialism and taxes/duties. Whither, indeed, you may say. But poor Mr Churchill turfed out after seeing Britain through the war

It is simply staggering that none of the foolish and vagabonds who pushed the Afghan Surge & “counter insurgency” nonsense for over a decade had careers or reputations damaged. As is the case with 2019, military failure is now failure upward and onward. Sordid affairs, indeed.
Listening to the audio of this 2015 interview with Lt Gen Michael Flynn on the Afghan War and its misconduct...it is (deservedly) unsparing. Also, the Intelligence picture/problem for so chaotic a war.

We must keep those in power & the bureaucrats constantly in check. Bottom-up. Decentralization. We have to bother them, demand more from them, and make them feel uncomfortable if they don’t keep their political promises or don’t deliver. We have to expose them too when necessary!
The State, its bureaucrats, politicians as well as supranational organizations are not masters but are to be seen as (social) servants providing a specific social good that is desired by a healthy mass of citizens (collective service, good, demand). Otherwise, social parasitism.
