One time I did a project for someone. Pay was supposed to be 15K. Upfront was 10K. I collected upfront. Delivered the project but to pay me my balance became a problem. I was going to let it go if this lady was nice. But she wasn’t. So I became an asshole too.
I got a bulk sms service that offers APIs and paid for 1000 smses. And then I wrote a piece of code that sends this woman an SMS every morning with just 3 words and my name as sender: “you owe me”. At first it was a joke. A little annoyance.
But little annoyances can easily grow into major ones if they persist. She went and reported me to a friend after like 2 months. I told my friend the program will run for 1000 days. This is just day 60. This is just the beginning.
So because she went and reported me to my friend I also changed the code to send 2 SMSes, randomly between 6am and 6pm with four words and my name as sender: “you still owe me”.
This ran for another month and then I changed the code to send 4 smses randomly in the day. This was when most mobile phones can’t hold more than a few smses so her phone was getting filled and I wasn’t not going to stop.
One day after about 4 months I got a text message from her: Please stop. I’ve paid you your money.
I’m generally a nice guy so I checked my balance, see my money have been paid and I stopped. Even though I really badly wanted to continue.
