Burns’ interview with inspector general for Afghanistan, however, raises plenty of questions about his own competence. Burns admits the NATO operation was dysfunctional—we had to do most of the heavy lifting and suffered the most casualties because our allies weren’t prepared.
Burns’ pal, Doug Lute, another Trump critic and Biden backer, was more candid:
“We are a rich country and can pour money down a hole and it doesn’t bust the bank. But should we?”

We now know, thanks to impeachment, the smug sense of entitlement possessed by the diplomatic class. But now, thanks to #AfghanistanPapers, we know what incompetent liars they are, too. Trump isn’t the threat to national security and global order—they are.
