As a public defender, it is wild to listen to the detailed account of Trump’s obstruction & think about all the Black & Latino people I’ve served, arrested for refusing to open a door when the police knocked, or standing in the way of a wrongful arrest or excessive force.
Young Black & Latino teens get arrested for “blocking pedestrian traffic” & charged with Disorderly Conduct, for hanging out with a group of friends on sidewalks in Brooklyn. Meanwhile, Trump’s blocking lawful subpoenas & ordering people not to testify. And he’s still president.
People I serve get arrested & jailed for missing a single courtdate for sleeping late, inability to afford $2.75 subway, another appointment they had to make, or just forgetting. That’s what they get for disobeying a lawful order. But Trump is still president despite everything.
Rape survivors, sex trafficking victims, & witnesses to violent crimes routinely get arrested & jailed for failing to comply with subpoenas to cooperate or testify until they agree to comply. Trump unlawfully blocks witnesses from testifying, disclosure, & he’s still President.

I just met a young man arrested for taking a shower in his mom’s house. His brother came over & called the police. They previously have had fights & brother had an order of protection. Charged w/ criminal contempt for violating court orders. But Trump’s still President.
