I don't know why more people aren't noting that the *way* Republicans are arguing for an end to the trial not only richly justifies but *invites* the House to *relaunch its impeachment inquiry* with not just new articles but *more investigation of the old ones*—and adding Pence.
1/ People act like this disingenuous argument we're hearing from GOP senators is a genius power play to aid Trump, but really it's a public license for the House to say *for the next nine months* that its continued investigations are merely what GOP senators repeatedly demanded.
2/ Listen carefully to what Republican senators are saying. They don't say, "There's nothing to investigate here." They don't say, "The evidence is complete." They *repeatedly and forcefully* say that "The House needs to do more investigation." Why not take them up on that offer?
3/ *So many Republicans* are now on record saying that what is needed is *more investigation in the House* that I don't know that they could win the public argument anymore, if the House re-launches a *massively expanded impeachment inquiry*, that old territory is being rehashed.
4/ In other words, to save themselves from short-term pain, Republican senators are doing, as you might expect based on their lack of principles and nerve, the least courageous thing they could possibly do: asking someone else to do months and months of investigations into Trump.
