I am really pissed off right now because the result poll for autistic poc may not be correct. I saw a tweet from an autistic poc said that white autistics and neurotypicals respond to Don't Respond opinion instead of autistic poc. The poll is for Autistic POC and NOT for white /1

We already have #DisabilityTooWhite for the disability community as a whole dealing with why there no representation of disabled POC. Now, we need a hashtag for #ActuallyAutistic community and the new hashtag is #AutismTooWhite. Yes I said it- Autism is damn white. /1
We need to fix this problem right now. The image of autism need to change and have to reflex the REAL diversity in the autistic community. If you know autism affect everyone, you know you have to represent everyone within the community and not the majority of the community. /2
It is not fair at all to leave out #ActuallyAutistic POC of the conversation. We need to do better. We cannot let the image of autism continues to dominate the media and conversations. All of you could see is autistic white males. This is the stereotype still exists today. /3

I feel a bit rusty at this old thread game, but here goes.

I have seen The Big Lebowski about 15 times. I've watched all of the US Office at least 8 times. I must have watched every episode of Bottom at least 30 times.

Why? Well, in part, I think being #autistic is why. /2
And before anyone starts - of course non-autistic people watch the same thing over and over. I know. Im talking about hoe this habit intersects with #autism.

#autistic people having to mask their traits to be accepted and not shunned by society can have big negative consequences for them, consequences that can also impact the non-autistic folk around them. This has the perverse effect of causing #autistic people to be shunned more. /1
Hardly seems fair to me. Let's imagine an #autistic teacher (and this is all highly hypothetical) masks their autistic traits in order to succeed in work. It works, but the effort leads to a meltdown at work. /2
This meltdown (and remember, all hypothetical!) would be highly embarrassing for the #autistic teacher, despite it being fairly minimal, as they've worked so hard to come across as 'normal'. In a stroke, in their mind, it's erased years of hard work. /3

#autistic people are disproportionately affected by unemployment and homelessness, so anything that may help autistic folk get a job is worthwhile I think. But the onus has always been on us, not employers. /2
Employers *need* to accept more #autistic people into their workplaces, if we're ever going to see an improvement in the stats. So here goes. /3

1. Maybe they're too hot. They may not be dressed appropriately for the weather, to be honest. I struggle with this, having my favourite jeans that I'll wear without thinking during a heatwave, and spend all day grumpy as a sad badger. #autisticadults
2. Maybe they're too cold. Heavy woolly jumpers can be anathema to #autistic people, as can any rough material. Some of us hate wearing coats. We may need looking after with this, especially if we like the cold - we may not notice it's now too cold!
