The U.S. Senate is now voting to table the Schumer amendment to subpoena documents.
McConnell is seeking to "table" the amendment, which is the equivalent of killing it.
The U.S. Senate, 53-47, voted to table the first Schumer amendment to subpoena the White House for Ukraine related documents.
That amendment now dead.
Onto Schumer Amendment #2.
The U.S. Senate is now voting on whether to table the second amendment - to subpoena the State Department.

It's also not how the Senate rules define the Senate's job.

@MarshaBlackburn Art. 1, Sec. 3 of the U.S. Constitution states clearly that: “The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all impeachments.”

You can find the full text of the Constitution here: constitutionus.com

“Sole power” means that nobody else should do the work for the Senate.

Trial (a form of the word “try”) is what happens when a court acts as a fact finder to determine what happened.

This is done by examining witnesses and documents.

#Thread. Alright let’s deal with the Hecht Op-Ed/steaming pile of crap. First from a journalism perspective it should never have been published. It is a hot mess of exaggerations, fiction, and leaps of conclusion to fit the author’s - ignorant - narrative.
First never mind #Denmark I found the the most puzzling statement to be about #Switzerland, below. The Swiss are not governed by four ethnic governments with each ethnicity sticking to their fourth of the country. This claim, as far as I can tell, is total fiction.
Matter of fact after an afternoon researching Swiss governance, ethnicity, etc. The descriptions of #Switzerland used common terms like “diverse” “a melting pot.” Having been to Zurich it is also very nice and well worth a trip.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.
