Senate quiet tonight... spotlight on Rs who have considered calling for witnesses. McConnell is moving twd a vote, even as he says he doesn't have votes to block witnesses. 1) Will 4 of them commit to voting in favor of witnesses? 2) Can they come up w/ any agrmt on who to call?
what to watch: Who ends up *arguing* that they're "in favor," in spirit, of calling witnesses but *doesn't* end up voting to call witnesses, for whatever reason. Several GOP sources say many Rs want political cover, to blame Democrats and end the trial ASAP...
Last week marked the beginning of when the GOP began to explore being in favor of witnesses ONLY if it was done in a way that Dems would find unacceptable, such as a Biden for Bolton trade. This moment has been a long time coming. washingtonpost.com/politics/senat…
