Despite assertions they "won the argument" and symbolic victory laps the fact is that the impeachment was defeated. Without a unifying issue to bind the liberal coalition can they reform around a new platform?
"Another Trump scandal" would bring diminishing returns. Sooner or later the question of what the heirs of the New Deal stand for must be faced when it's time may have passed.
One answer is to go back to the time before the New Deal to a purer form of socialism. That's really the essence of Bernie's appeal.

It's no longer premature to start wondering whether the Chinese Communist Party is itself in mortal political danger. Such an event would ripple outward like a tsunami.
When states fall they produce fragments, militias, refugees, unsecured weapons programs. If the blast doesn't get you the shrapnel will.
We are a long way from Chinese chaos but it's no longer unthinkable.
