Are you still following Louise Mensch? She said in 2017 that Orrin Hatch had been sworn in as the shadow president and that Donald was under house arrest. She said she had sources. She was lying. She lied to you, neighbor, to make you complacent.

I have not gotten everything right in the past few years but I have never lied. I have never said I had sources who knew and told you that everything would be okay.

Orrin Hatch retired rather than have to choose the country over a party that had sided with Trump, but Mensch told you he would save us all. I told you he wouldn't. I am not all-knowing, but I have never lied.

And here we are, on the precipice of exactly what I feared, exactly what I foretold. I said the power of the presidency is whatever the nation lets him get away with. I said he could sideline the courts without a constitutional amendment. I said the GOP would choose him.

It's not hopeless, and if it is, if there's no point to anything then it doesn't matter what we do so we might as well proceed as though there is hope, in case there is. But even if it's not hopeless, it's dire.

I have the same sources she does (none) and I have never made a secret of that. I get people DMing me to ask me for my source on an insight that cuts close to the bone and I tell them: I do not know, I observe. I have not always been right but I have always been honest.

Does anybody pay me a fat salary for my insight? Do I get the big money like Chris Cillizza? Do I have backers like Mensch? No. I have patrons, individuals who throw a little money in the tip jar when they can, and it is enough, because it has to be.

The reward I reap for my watch is I get to keep keeping it. My prize for being right is people in my DMs asking me what's going to happen, journalists and pundits and political scientists begging me in the middle of the night to tell them that it's going to be okay.

I didn't ask for this. I didn't want this. I don't want to be the prophet. I don't want to be the one who is honest. I am, by nature, constitution, and inclination a whole actual sociopath. I should be a grifter. It's my skillset. I'd be great at it. See? Honesty.

But these are times that demand honesty. Self-interest demands I tell you the truth, neighbor. If there's a winning move, it's telling you the truth about what's going on.
