Rather than agonize over exactly what rationale Republican senators have for dismissing the case against Trump, let's just put a new Senate in there! If you have some money to spare, you can help rural get out the vote efforts in four contested states: secure.actblue.com/donate/great_s…
Why fund these races when the goal is a Senate majority?

1) Senate campaigns will rapidly saturate with money
2) Rural House candidates run in the hardest parts of the state
3) They can run on more local, cross-ideological pocketbook issues
4) They have infrastructure in place
The same argument holds for funding *state* candidates in contested Senate races. But it's going to be a little while before all candidates for those races file, and win a primary. Meanwhile, these campaigns are up and running. Your impeachment anger dollar will go furthest here!
When I talk about running on cross-ideological issues, the details can be fascinating. Farmers in *Steve King's* district want to grow hemp! Solid Republicans there are angry with Trump's fixation on coal and oil, since green energy=$ in Iowa. These are opportunities to win votes
Whether you agree with my analysis or think it is bonkers, please make a campaign contribution today *somewhere* where you think it will be useful. The early money is incomparably more powerful than anything you can give in the fall.
My final plea for getting involved in specific campaigns is that American politics is far more interesting, and hopeful, when you dig into the details at a local level. It will help get you off the hamster wheel of online strife and maybe restore some optimism. We all need that.

Tom Steyer spent $16.3 million on ads in Iowa to get 3001 votes, which means that victory in November would cost him $340B. The very act of his running will substantially revitalize the American economy, albeit with a huge carbon footprint
America today has de facto wealth redistribution via an opt-in narcissism tax on billionaires running for President, but it's very inefficient and mostly captured by billboard owners and D.C. consultants
By comparison, Meg Whitman only spent $43 per vote in her losing bid to be Governator of California. It's amusing (and enraging) to consider that if Steyer had just invested the money in helping Iowa communities, he would have gotten far more votes.

One thing that's important to stress about Iowa is that everybody at the caucus events learns the outcome. The statewide result could be reconstructed even if there weren't a paper trail, but there is also a very thorough paper trail. The integrity of the election is not in doubt
I say that because of bullshit like this, from someone who should know better (or at least know what the DNC does)
There is a live tally of the various supporters at the events, which you see with your own eyes. This gets announced and reported, then converted to delegate counts. Everyone leaves the caucus knowing the precinct's tallies and final counts. Many of those people are still around!

When you set up two-factor, think about the scenario where you lose your phone, keys, wallet/purse and laptop together. Printed single-use security codes and passwords left with a spouse, editor, safe drawer in your home etc. are a hassle, but boy will you be happy you did it.
With passwords, any of a number of backup strategies are fine. Print them out, save an encrypted copy somewhere, keep an emergency device separate from others. The point is to have one that survives the loss of your laptop, phone, and other belongings at the same time.
A nice thing about security keys as two-factor is that they are not only the best defense against phishing, but your key can serve as a backup for others (and vice versa), except on Twitter, where they don't let you register multiple keys to an account.

The 2020 election is likely to be close. Trump's approval rating & GDP growth suggest that he'll win about 49% of the two-party vote, per our modeling. He's clearly competitive, especially when Democrats need to win the popular vote by about ~2.5pts to win the electoral college.
So the "electability" of the candidates is a particular concern for Democrats.

So what do we know about who is more likely to win general elections?

Why is it controversial or a "GOP talking point" to advocate that impeachment proceedings, the most dramatic mechanism available in the Constitution, be conducted in public with maximum transparency?
Basic information stemming from this "impeachment inquiry" is being withheld from the public under the auspices of "national security" or whatever cockamamie justification Schiff comes up with on a given day. Instead we have to rely on leaks. It's ridiculous
Shouldn't the people *demanding impeachment* be most furious that it's all happening behind closed doors? If the case against Trump is so strong, put it all out there for public consumption and let us assess, rather than doing this sketchy kabuki theater routine
