Note that a lot of the ways that FDR differs from Bernie Sanders were actually *mistakes* by FDR. The 1937 austerity, the weird stuff with trying to prop up monopoly profits with the NRA and create artificial shortages with the AAA. Bernie wouldn't have made those mistakes.
So when I say "Bernie isn't like FDR", this is not to dismiss Bernie. The 2020s are not the 1930s. The transformation we needed then was different than the transformation we need now. Maybe Bernie will bring the transformation we need now, maybe he won't. It's just not the same.
It's also important to remember that Bernie will come in to the presidency with a coherent plan for structural transformation, and a coherent ideology about the role of the state, while FDR made up both his plan and his ideology on the fly.
