I don't care how dumb this ad is (yes, it's dumb), but a world where politicians get into vicious battles over who is more dedicated to criminal justice reform is the world we need to be in.
Is Trump a good candidate for CJ reform measures? Absolutely not. If elected again, would he be comparably good at furthering those policies? Also absolutely not.
But – he's on the right battle ground.

Just for public awareness alone, having Trump run emotional Super Bowl ads that say "actually, putting people in cages for decades for no goddamn reason is bad and sad and gut wrenching, and voters should want to put a stop to it" is pretty incomparable for message pushing.
