I woke up ready to work on my book! I leave for a work trip Wed. so today is my only full day of research & writing. #WorkGoals:
-Re-read book chapter & make edits (2 hrs)
-Catch up a bit on email (1 hr)
-Read secondary sources (1 hr)
-Finish work trip prep
This week I’ll be at @UCIrvine with Mimi Khúc for this event and workshop. Hope to see some of my southern Cali folks there!

Also, I’ll have a bit of free time while I’m there so I’m still looking for recommendations of things to do/see/eat in the area. I’m staying at a hotel in Newport Beach near the Orange County airport I believe.

For folks who don’t know, academic gigs are hard to get. I finished my PhD first & left for NY. When I got my WI job, my partner got a temporary gig in TX. For years we’ve made conference dates & semester break visits work.
For us to both have permanent gigs in the same place & know that neither of us has to go on the job market or move maybe ever again is just mind-blowing. It gives us some stability & predictability that we have literally never known.
Sometimes we message like “OMG we can get snowed in together” or “Soon we can go on planes together instead of in order to see each other!” or “In a few months we won’t have to do XYZ long distance relationship thing.”

Wait, did this poll disappear? I can’t see it anymore but I set it for 2 days.
It appears that folks using iPhones can’t see it but others can. There was just an iOS app update so I imagine that’s the issue.
But they need to fix it soon bc I need to take petty screenshots to be like “Look bro, literally everyone thinks you’re racist”

I haven’t talked about this here yet but my long time long distance partner got a job at UW Madison in my dept & is moving here this summer. It’s truly the academic relationship jackpot. Neither of us thought we would ever get to live in the same place, let alone work together.
So with that context, today I went to go look at apartments for my partner. They set up appointments & went to FaceTimed them in to view. At the 2nd place the woman living there opened the door & the following scene occurred before I even got inside.
Woman: Are you a professor at UW?
Me: Yes
Woman: Did you twerk with @lizzo?
Me: Yes
Woman: OMG I knew I recognized you!
Me: Yup. So...can I see the place?

Woke up a bit ago to some angry texts from Rudy Giuliani.

He's pissed Dems aren't considering calling him as a witness and says "they are afraid of my physical presence."

My approach consists of 4 separate stages: 1) gathering sources, 2) reading/analyzing the sources I have collected, 3) organizing the sources and making a top down writing outline, 4) writing. 2/
Some people do research and write one chapter, and then do the same process for another. Others do research while writing. I don’t adopt these approaches. 3/

The key was a #video explaining the benefits of pruning.

She needs REASONS. She got them.

Apparently, pruning in a particular manner stimulates growth hormones.

- sub-prime individuals mostly used the shock to pay down debt, close revolving credit, improve credit scores.

- prime individuals took on more risk: higher mortgage balances, auto-loan balances, more risk taking.
