Today, in 2020, we're at 1.3°C at least (see article). According to Paul Beckwith we're already at 1.4°C.

The increase per decade would appear to be ~0.3C, but the trend seems to be towards acceleration.

How do feel about the very real risk of catastrophic simultaneous global crop failures becoming exceedingly high by 2029 due to global warming of 1.7°C from increasing emissions and terrifyingly powerful Arctic albedo & permafrost feedbacks? I feel very very vote Bernie Sanders.
Risks of simultaneous crop failure 'increase disproportionately between 1.5 and 2°C, so surpassing the 1.5°C threshold will represent a threat to global food security.'

We're at 1.3/1.4°C.

Jet stream disruption, droughts, extreme heat waves and flooding are all set to cause food production havoc this decade.

By ignoring socio-economic realities facing the people that the tech is supposed to benefit, GM Golden Rice could make things much, much worse for them.

The German government unveiled a major policy package to combat #climate change. The subsequent discussion in the German media shows the huge political and economic cost of a simple-minded focus on #carbon pricing – it’s the 1980s all over again! A Thread @BMF_Bund @JWMason1
The policy package contains a mix of mainly sensible measures: A slowly increasing carbon price, public investment (public trains), subsidies for switching to green technology, transfers to compensate “losers”, and a plan to move out of coal energy.
What happened in the subsequent media discussion is very interesting. As expected, there was critique of certain transfers and subsidies that some groups did not like (“waste of money”). Also, the opposition parties were critical – no surprise here.

2. These estimates are significant because if people choose to not respond to the #2020Census themselves, that would affect "not only citizenship statistics but also other demographic statistics and the population coverage of the count itself," @uscensusbureau researchers write.
3. If you don't respond to #2020Census, @uscensusbureau workers will likely visit your home. If they can't reach someone after multiple tries, they'll have to ask a neighbor or turn to existing records for answers that are probably less accurate than info reported by household.

This is a needed discussion, so...

First, in no way am I (or @markfwespn ) dividing people into deniers/believers. That wouldn't be thoughtful; it would be, essentially, a form of journalistic malpractice. @WillStewNeuro
I'm trying to raise questions in response to the assertion that the media is misleading, understand how we can do better, and offer perspective from someone who tries to cover these complicated issues honestly and accurately.
The prevalence question to me is a non-starter; at @espn we say it's unknown in every story. When I speak publicly, I'm often asked if I would let my kid play football. I say `Yes,' Why? Bec. prevalence hasn't been established and rewards are great.
