Why is the virus so dangerous?

- With ICU, mortality rate for severe cases is ~4%
- But 26% of these go to ICU
- And only so many ICU beds in city
- And disease is v contagious

So, as disease spreads you run out of ICU beds. Which likely raises already high mortality rate.
One important note is that this is for severe, hospitalized cases. And many cases are mild. But as the Caijing report indicates, not all severe cases are being hospitalized.

So we don’t yet (to my knowledge) have large-scale stats on % of severe vs mild.
For context, this source states entire US has total of ~100k ICU beds. And there are other claims on that capacity.

If we knew bed utilization across the US, could calculate how many cases could be handled with existing ICU space.
