Don't know who needs to hear this but a president still wins the election even if Grover Norquist and George Will vote for somebody else.
I've been clear that I think trying to win swing voters on the right is a strategic loser but even if it isn't, the fact that Republicans *explode* the deficit every time Democrats shrink it should tell you deficits are not a real Republican concern, just an excuse they give.
anyway the Mayor is right, Democrats should definitely back away from extremely popular policy proposals that would actually help people live and start running on the thing that excites nobody

The idea that socialism is both something that we must prevent least we become like other countries, and simultaneously apparently the thing those countries would look down on us.

There are a lot of centrist extremists around right now.
It’s not. Adhering to doctrine w/o discernment leads to extremism. Holding the center between two poles as a grounding principle—without consideration of where those polls reside ideologically or the effects of occupying that center ground—is extremist.
The center between a good position and a bad one is closer to the bad position than is the good position.

It may be necessary to compromise in the moment if that center point is all the can be practically achieved. But that center is not preferable to the good position.

Hotter take outgoing: anyone spending 100s of millions in media advertising is not only the subject of every media platform but also their biggest customer, and the distinction between “earned” and “paid” media is made utterly meaningless, which is the problem here.
Cable news’s product is not news. Cable news’s product is delivering all of our eyeballs to advertisers, who pay them, for us.

Mike Bloomberg has simply used his vast wealth to become cable news’ biggest customer, their most important consumer of us, their product.
There was a time when newsrooms weren't meant to be profit centers, the thinking being the American public would abandon them at the first sign of untrustworthines.

Then came Fox.

I understand you are planning to vote for @BernieSanders.

This is a free country, and you have the right to #vote for him. I am grateful to live in a country where we actually have a choice when we go to the #ballotbox. There are many countries where that option doesn't exist.
That there are countries were the head of government places his/her name on the ballot, no competition, and still conducts an election. Of course, in such countries, voting is actually often MANDATORY.
Did you realize that?

The result? The head of government receives overwhelming ballot box support. 80% 90% support!
