Let's review what has happened in the week since a bare, partisan majority in the Senate voted to acquit the President, in some cases conceding his abuses but arguing they were not impeachable and he'd learned his lesson: 1/8
washingtonpost.com/politics/trump…
1) The President, far from striking a conciliatory tone, used a prayer breakfast and a press event, to claim complete vindication, hint at revenge, and attack House and Senate leaders and the brave Sen. Mitt Romney in the most vicious and partisan terms. 2/8
2) Then the President started firing those who testified to his abuses: Amb. Sondland, a key player in Trump's scheme, decorated war veteran Lt. Col. Vindman, and Vindman's brother, who had nothing to do with this. The President is now suggesting Vindman could be disciplined. 3/8
3) The President's Attorney General William Barr opened up a direct channel for the President's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani to bring in "evidence" he gathered from abroad about the the President's political rivals, particularly the Bidens. 4/8
4) The Treasury Department, which like all executive agencies, had been consistently stonewalling all congressional oversight into the President and administration, quickly turned over sensitive documents the President's Senate allies requested about Hunter Biden. 5/8
5) AG Barr and the Justice Department overruled the sentencing recommendation of career prosecutors for the President's longtime associate Roger Stone, following the President's public objection. All four career prosecutors in the case withdrew. 6/8
6) New reporting says Barr will directly handle department matters of interest to the President, making him officially the President's enforcer rather than the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. 7/8

This is one week! Senators Collins and Ernst said the President had learned his lesson, and they were right. He has learned that he can use the entire federal government for his personal and political advancement. The silence from his allies this week has been deafening. 8/8
