BREAKING - Indigenous Youth for Wet’suwet’en Winnipeg & their allies have ended their peaceful 11-day occupation of Minister of Northern Affairs Dan Vandal’s office after the Minister failed to respond to their demands to condemn the RCMP invasion of #Wetsuweten territory.

Over these 11 days, Minister Vandal has refused to speak publicly about the ongoing displacement of Wet’suwet’en peoples in a way that even remotely satisfied the Indigenous youth occupying his constituency office in Winnipeg.

Over the course of these 11 days, Minister Vandal only met with the youth for a total of 1.5 hours, despite being back in the riding this week. On 1 occasion, the Minister came into the office and insulted the youth, calling them “disgusting”

The occupation in Winnipeg has been one of many happening in MP & MLA offices across the country - from Vancouver, to Toronto, to Halifax. In Victoria, Indigenous Youth for Wet’suwet’en held a multi-day blockade of the BC Legislature, culminating in a shutdown of the building
