Nominating Bloomberg would not just be morally wrong, it's strategically absurd. Trump appeals to people as a rich guy with low-to-middle brow tastes. It's the rich guy who eats fast food, "just like us!" Bloomberg is the rich guy who looks down on those same people...
What folks miss is that American populism is less about material elitism than cultural elitism/snobbery. What Americans hate is not elites per se, but elites who look down on THEM and their lives...intellectual elites, people who judge them for their hobbies, diets, etc..
So if its Bloomberg v Trump, Trump wins because Bloomberg's whole shtick is snobbery. He is condescending. Trump, for all his faults, is not. He plays to those people's resentments and markets himself as an everyman. The ads write themselves...
"The Democrats are the party of elite snobs. Oh sure, they say they are for working people but they nominate the 14th richest man on the planet who wants to tell you what to eat and drink, and who has said THIS about farmers (roll the tape where he says anyone can do it).."
Bloomberg would hand Trump the ultimate culture war imagery. And he could just attack MB as a guy trying to buy the presidency, whereas he (Trump) relies on donations from supporters...Trump knows how to play to middle brow. MB cannot and would not...
Trump will get in a wrestling ring as a PR stunt. MB would find that tacky (or he would likely say gauche, which would be just another strike against him). Trump decks everything out in gold (a non rich persons fantasy of what richness is), MB will call him a phony rich person..
...and think that's a good strategy because it "gets under his skin." But ya know who else's skin it would get under? Millions of Americans. They would hear: "I have more money than u. You're not a REAL rich person!" Yeah, and neither are they & they'll hate u for reminding them
