I am absolutely amazed at the outpouring of support for the case to establish the constitutionality of the Scottish Parliament legislating for #indyref2. It is a case rooted in our sovereignty as the people of Scotland.
It's a case of the people asking a question of their courts to assert the right of their duly elected parliament to ask them the most important question of a lifetime, asserting the lawfulness of holding such a plebicite but also asserting our voice as sovereign.
Not of politics, not of Governments, nor parliaments but the people expressing their voice. I am deeply proud to be able to do this, and I am making you the promise right now, no matter how long it takes, or what it takes. Clarity will be brought to this fundamental issue.
But I need you to do me a favour. Throughout this process, as updates are forthcoming on the progress, I want to hear from you all. I want to read and to hear your opinions, your questions. Because this is your action, not mine, I am merely a facilitator.
I'll be guided by your voices, so let me hear them. It's not going to be possible to make everyone happy, but I assure you that each step will be based on sound logic, the majority opinion and any contentious matter will be fully explained and the reason behind them.
This case is to do with law yes. But at the same time I see it as the line in the sand. A moment when the ordinary man and the ordinary woman stopped, turned and looked Westminster square in the jaw with a "Oh! div ye think so! aye?".
It is never wrong to ask a question such as this. It is never wrong to clarify the law, constitution and our place in the eyes of others. It's never wrong to assert our own voice. And so we will. We will!
