Participants were preoccupied with an uncertain future - 66% feel there is no consensus on a post Brexit future and 62% feel they have no opportunity to shape the long-term future of the country
There is a perception that not everyone benefits equally from innovation. There are clear ‘winners’ (younger people,higher earners, graduates) and ‘losers’ (older people, lower earners, people who are unemployed).
There are concerns that innovation could make inequality worse and 67% are willing to see some areas grow more slowly if it means the benefits will be spread more evenly
People want action on widening inequality, struggling public services and the climate crisis. They also believe that the public should have more say and decision-making power on innovation
So what should happen next? We're calling for the Government to rethink its innovation agenda in the following four ways
