From March 1-December 4 2019, I was in India doing research for my dissertation. I visited several archives and libraries and would like to share some of the helpful resources that made my research experience so beneficial. #Research #ResearchSouthAsia #ResearchIndia 1/10
I must state up front that many Indian archivists and librarians greatly assisted me. I also received helpful advice from incredible students at JNU, DU, JMI, Ashoka, and South Asian University. Plus I thank wonderful folks at Carnegie India, ORF, CPR, and Brookings India 2/10
Okay, now to research resources. First, I was delighted to learn (thanks to @raghunid) that nearly all of the Selected Works of Jawaharlal Nehru (SWJN) have been digitized. Now anyone anywhere can access and use nearly all of them 3/10

@raghunid Like Nehru, Gandhi's works have been collected and are available in a digital format. 98 volumes are available and just a few clicks away for Gandhian scholars 4/10

@raghunid Next, the National Archives of India has a new research portal called Abhilekh Patel (you can find it on the main site, under the Service tab). Over 70,000 documents are currently available digitally. The portal also has a link to the digitized Subhas Chandra Bose papers 5/10
@raghunid If you study India-Pakistan or India-China relations or the history of Indian foreign relations, do yourself a big favor and familiarize yourself with the works of Avtar Singh Bhasin. His multi-volume collections on Pakistan and China are a godsend to researchers 6/10
@raghunid While in India, I learned the V.K. Krishna Menon papers are now open at the Nehru Library. Economist Ashok Mitra's paper are open too and have been digitized. For more info on doing research at the Nehru Library, check this out from @contingent_mag 7/10

@raghunid @contingent_mag Thanks to a very helpful and kind researcher, I learned India's Ministry of External Affairs assembled Foreign Affairs Records (FAR). They are hosted through MEA's Library. The FARs date back to the 1950s and go up to 1999 8/10

@raghunid @contingent_mag The same researcher told me about MEA Annual Reports. Also hosted through the MEA Library, the Annual Reports document the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and beyond. Some reports even go up to the mid-2000s 9/10

@raghunid @contingent_mag I hope this information was helpful. Please retweet & help spread the word to those who research or are just interested in India. Tweet or DM with any questions you have or if you want to share research tips 10/10
