▶️ Observables vs Promises
Both Promises and Observablesprovide uswithabstractions that help usdeal with the asynchronousnatureof our applications. However, thereareimportantdifferences between thetwo:
1️⃣ As seen in theexample above, Observables candefineboth the setup and teardown aspects of asynchronousbehavior.

2️⃣ Observables are cancellable.

Just listened to the @IndieHackers podcast. @csallen spoke with @dvassallo. This quote struck me: "As soon as something inspires me... I tend to do it almost immediately, at least I’ll start." So I'm going to live-validate an idea right now. Join in with ideas/input. Thread 👇
My hypothesis: Users of SaaS apps often need to upload data from flat files (csv, excel). Designing and coding this feature is really annoying - multiple file-formats, complex error handling, unclear UX - and a source of support.
My initial product idea is a service that handles file parsing, customizable validation, generates a template for users to fill out, and provides a UI with error-correcting feedback. Probably in the form of an API + SDK.

#BandaDaily #1:

When #coding something, always approach the problem iteratively.

That means that as #developer you go through roughly 5 stages:

1. Make a straightforward solution
2. Cover edge cases
3. Improve the performance
4. Improve the design
5. Reduce complexity

1. Make a straightforward solution

It's the basis of your work: it's rough, potentially inefficient, and may not work in the edge cases.

Copy/paste here instead of creating complex reusable components.

Here's the goal to create something that actually works, but not perfect.
As a junior engineer, you should be able to come up with at least one such solution, after thinking about the problem for a while, researching, and discussing with more experienced engineers.

If you still can't, the problem requires more expertise than you currently have.

Have had a chance to read a great article by @dangoslen:…

The lessons he learned at the beginning of his #SoftwareEngineer career are quite similar we've encountered on our path and put as principles for junior #developers.

What are those principles? 🧵
Principle #1: Don't listen to your ego — talk to your team

Stop caring about your thoughts of what other people might think about you. It shouldn't matter to you.

Always talk to your team when you are in trouble, share your thoughts, get answers/help, and continue growing.
Principle #2: Be braver — say (nonsense) aloud

A similar one, but still quite different: if you get an idea or thought - say it aloud during tech meetings, discussions, one on ones and so on.

Doesn't matter how bold it is - don't hold it back. Say, get feedback, and move on.

Please help us welcome our next curator Darryl Takudzwa Griffiths. @BlaqNinja completed his Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering at DUT, graduated in 2011. Due to struggling to find suitable employment he went on to study multiple certificates from bodies such as Microsoft.
He has certificates in N+ (Computer Networking), A+ (Computer Technician & Technical Support), Certified Ethical Hacking V7 (CEH v7), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP). Sadly even with these, he could not secure his desired post so in 2016 he moved to USA.
Darryl was able to secure a job in a corporation that owns casinos as a system analyst & security architect. Within the same year he embarked on a Masters degree in Robotics & Artificial Intelligence Engineering. In 2017 he resigned from his post and started his own company...
