I’m 52 & born in Egypt. Hearing Bernie Sanders said something as inane as there were some good things about Castro’s Cuba reminds me that for 50+ white Americans socialism is associated w/worst aspects of USSR. For younger ones,that is not the case. This is a white American thing
Also: Bernie Sanders - as his campaign presents him anyway - is a Democratic Socialist, which in many countries is considered a “moderate” and hardly the radical leftists his enemies want to make him out to be. For non-Americans watching, it is quite stunning.

I remember being in my early 20s in ghe 80s and writing papers on Che and Castro for Poli Sci classes at university in Cairo. My position on both is more complicated now but it’s good to see younger people in the US refuse to accept Cold War propaganda stuff.
I say all of this and remind you I’m a registered Independent (NY) because I’m left of the Democrats & cannot vote in this primary & rarely talk about the candidates because I find most discussions FUCKING BANANAS. People I usually respect sound like they’ve joined a fucking cult
