2001: They hate us for our freedom
2002: Massive surveillance and racial profiling keeps us safe.
2003: We have to fight them there so we don't fight them here.
2003: Mission Accomplished
2003: Torture is probably okay.
2004: John Kerry wasn't really a Vietnam war hero.
2005: Mid-tranche CDOs are a good thing.
2006: It's okay if the Vice President shoots someone's face off.
2007: The Fed shouldn't do anything to combat the looming recession.
2008: Oh. Shit.
2008: Sarah Palin would make a good Vice President.
2009: Obamacare sucks
2010: If we could harness the Tea Party, we'll be unstoppable.
2011: Occupy Wall Street just wants free stuff.
2012: 47% of Americans are takers
2013: We don't need the voting rights act.
2014: Obama shouldn't wear tan suits
2014: Let's vote to repeal Obamacare 1,500 times.
2015: BENGHAZI!
2015: Jeb!
2015: Donald Trump isn't a serious candidate.
2016: It's okay to steal Supreme Court seats.
2016: Donald Trump can't win the Republican nomination.
2017: Donald Trump will be presidential now.
2018: Oh. Shit.
2019: Democrats should primarily be concerned with making things easy for me, a Republican.
2019: Bernie Sanders can't win the nomination.
2020: Bernie Sanders can't win the general.
There are legitimate concerns about Bernie. But I'll take them from people who haven't spent the last 2 decades being wrong about almost everything.

PS: I did this off the top of my head, so I apologize if I got any of the years wrong or left off your favorite Republican failure

All right, @BernieSanders was pressed on nuking the filibuster and he did something I think is very clever.
He defended the filibuster, but said “If people want to stand and speak for 8 or 9 hours, they should have the right to do so.”
Now, that leaves him wiggle room...
One thing I’ve discussed a lot with @JosephPatrice is about nuking the *procedural* filibuster, but leaving (or restoring) the “talking” filibuster.
Basically the problem with the filibuster now is that it’s too easy to use. You just say “I’m filibustering” and that’s that.
In the old days, the way it was intended in the Constitution, you literally had to stand there and TALK to filibuster. Mr. Smith Goes To Washington style.
I think it’s an entirely reasonable argument to bring back THAT kind of filibuster, but stop the procedural kind.

She. Believes. The Woman.
When Matthews asked why would he lie, she said “why would SHE lie?”
This is the attitude change we *need.*
Now, when asked why she’s going after Bloomberg and not Bernie, she says Bloomberg (NOT Bernie) is the most dangerous candidate on stage because he’s trying to buy an election.
Principles. These are principles over electoral politics.
And now she’s nuking the filibuster.

President Trump has an obligation to take care that the laws be faithfully executed

And to preserve and defend the constitution of the United States

It's his obligation to shut this indictment down
The Assange Indictment is bad as a question of constitutional law

It's bad as a matter of policy wrt press freedom

And it's HORRIBLE politics
Trump supporters do not like the establishment

That's why they voted for him

The only constituencies happy about Assange going down are the #NeverTrump Republicans and #Resistance Democrats

Those constituencies are voting Biden 2020 no matter what

So Democrats hate Trump for the unforgiveable crime of not being a Democrat. (Former) #neverTrump Republicans like me hate him for things like this. It's never okay to ask the country's secret policy to suppress news stories. Ever.
It's not an isolated incident. It's how he appoints incompetent politicians to the FED to get them to stop raising interest rates so he can brag how high the stock market is going. It's how he tells border control to commit crimes with promises of pardons if they do so.
Yes, Obama did a couple of bad things as well, such implementing DACA as an executive order when it should've been done with a law from Congress. But it was nothing on the scale of Trump.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide let me say:

- how easy it is to stoke economic fear and pair it with racial fear. We have history to prove it. We know that road.

- Canada is not immune. We must always be on guard for the small wedge that opens the door.
Atrocity may explode like a powder keg, but it’s never the big event that is the cause, that’s just the effect.

Like the frog in the pot of increasingly heating water, it’s the prejudices, hate & fear that are allowed to spread & given platforms that lead to the boiling point.

It is good that there are Republicans and others in the small coalition of #NeverTrump conservatives. But criticizing Trump and/or leaving the Republican Party is insufficient. Never Trumpers and others must do much more to repent. My new .@salon

Many anti-Trump Republicans are concerned about Trump's fascism and other rule breaking. But they are also worried about how history will remember them now. All Republicans and conservatives must be held accountable for how they helped to birth Trumpism's evil. This took decades.
In essence, the #NeverTrump Republicans who now stand against Trump and his movement watered the roots of the tree for years and are now aghast at how it gobbles up innocent passers-by like a monster in a children’s fairytale.
